How to consider dissertation supervisors' recommendations in terms of the agile literature review approach

How to consider dissertation supervisors' recommendations in terms of the agile literature review approach?

For students thinking of their dissertation projects in terms of the agile literature review approach, they could encounter a situation with dissertation supervisors who highly recommend students to do the following steps:

1. Simplify the dissertation theme and scope, and focus mainly on the solution, notably, to formulate and evaluate a new solution (e.g. a new marketing strategy) for ABC Ltd.

2. Adopt the supervisor's own dissertation report sample and template to work on the dissertation project.

Different students have decided to work with their supervisors in different ways. As I am not the students' supervisor in this case, I could only offer the following agile literature review approach guideline for this type of situation:

1. It is quite feasible to construct a theoretical framework with a single main research objective, i.e. to formulate and evaluate a solution (e.g. a new marketing strategy) for ABC Ltd. The diagram will look likes the following:

2. Try to clarify with your supervisor to learn the estimated research effort on the core-focus domain research objective to "to formulate and evaluate a new marketing strategy for ABC Ltd". Is your supervisor recommending that you to spare 80% of your research effort on this research objective (also conceived as a high-level research task)? In this case, all the other research objectives, together, constitute 20% of the total research effort. Or, is your supervisor saying that, to simplify the research project, just skip all the noncore-focus domain tasks, and just investigate the core-focus-domain task?

3. After learning your supervisor's advice and considering your supervisor's report template, etc., see how you can adopt your supervisor's advice in your project work and report writing.

It is always useful to learn useful research knowledge from experienced academics; do review the ideas, digest them and develop your own approach to work on your dissertation project. This is what higher-level intellectual learning is all about.
