Module 'Rules for Tools'

Select the most appropriate rules, or use the pre-defined standard list for use of artificial intelligence on your module and delete the remainder.

Standardised Rules

  1. You may use AI tools and digital devices in class to support your learning.
  2. You may use information generated from AI tools as a resource within classwork, but you are expected to create your own work to submit for assessments.
  3. You may generate ideas for your assignments through AI tools, but you must adapt and amend these with academic and research evidence (correcting all biases) to ensure the work is your own when submitted - in line with the Student Academic Integrity Policy.
    •
      • I will complete spot-checks, and where there are concerns students will be asked to attend a short interview to discuss their assessment and confirm learning ahead of marks being awarded.
      • If any instances of unauthorised and/or unethical use are detected, there will be an interview with the potential to move to academic misconduct proceedings, as per the Student Academic Integrity Regulations.
  4. If you use generative AI tools in your work, you are expected to cite them appropriately.
  5. If you have questions about the content of AI generated work, please ask the module leader and/or tutors.
  6. If I need to ban the use of AI tools, I will explain why in advance.

  5. You may generate ideas for your assignments through AI tools, but you must adapt and amend these with academic and research evidence (correcting all biases) to ensure the work is your own when submitted - in line with the Student Academic Integrity Policy.
  6. I will complete spot-checks, and where there are concerns students will be asked to a short interview to discuss their assessment and confirm learning ahead of marks being awarded.
  7. If any instances of unauthorised and/or unethical use are detected, there will be an immediate interview with the potential to move to academic misconduct proceedings, as per the Student Academic Integrity Regulations.

Key Points to Note:

  • For modules taught by multiple lecturers, only the lecturer responsible for setting the assignment brief needs to provide the AI guidance. All other lecturers/markers should follow the approved guidance as outlined in the assignment brief and Canvas.
  • For modules where the assignment brief is provided by the UK Module Leader, please liaise with them to agree on the AI guidance and ensure it is updated in Canvas accordingly.
