The agile literature review approach (ALRA): 2025 practice update
At the outset of launching the agile literature review approach (ALRA) project in year 2027, the purpose was clear. It is meant to provide a useful methodology to support busy part-time MBA students in my Hong Kong Research Methods class to conduct their dissertation projects. Before long, I realized that my approach was for the consulting-oriented dissertation project type. And this type of dissertation project was the dominant one taken up by my MBA students. However, the consulting-oriented dissertation project type was largely given up by my MBA students around 2023 because many companies in Hong Kong became much less willing to let students, including the MBA students, to conduct research works in their companies. They got more worried about the risk of internal information leak to the outside world by the students' dissertation reports. Thus, I started in 2022 to work on another type of dissertation project, namely, the academic oriented project type.
At the same time, generative AI, notably ChatGPT, emerged and started to gain fast adoption to use by the public. ChatGPT and other generative AI tools substantially accelerate students' learning and support students, including the MBA students, to conduct their dissertation project works. In this regard, generative AI tools are very useful to support my MBA students to conduct their dissertation project works in a more agile way. Meanwhile, these tools also help me to produce useful teaching notes and ALRA practice notes. The ALRA notes have been posted on blogger. What I have just done is to "discuss" with perplexity.ai to come up with some concrete ideas on how to enhance agile dissertation project practice. By now, I have also extended my ALRA to inform my Housing Studies students to carry out their dissertation projects in an agile way.
This then is my brief update on the ALRA practice in 2025.
